Magnitude 5.1 Offshore Tremor Felt by Tiny Island Chains

A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck off the coast of Barbados in the North Atlantic Ocean on Thursday at 11:26 AM local time. The temblor shook the tiny island nation and sent shockwaves far and wide.

According to the Barbados Seismic Research Center, the epicenter of the earthquake was located approximately 100 kilometers (62 miles) northeast of the island, at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) below sea level. The earthquake was followed by several aftershocks, the largest of which was a magnitude 3.6.

The earthquake caused some damage to buildings and infrastructure in Barbados, but there were no reports of injuries. The island's National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) is monitoring the situation and has advised residents to be prepared for possible aftershocks.

The earthquake was felt as far away as Trinidad and Tobago, where it caused some minor shaking. There were no reports of damage or injuries in Trinidad and Tobago.
