Early Life and Career

Allan James McGregor was born on January 31, 1982, in Edinburgh, Scotland. He began his football career with Hutchison Vale Boys' Club before joining Rangers' youth system at the age of 16. McGregor made his professional debut for Rangers in 2002, starting in the Scottish League Cup final against Celtic. He quickly established himself as a first-team regular and became a key member of the club's squad.

Tenure at Rangers

McGregor spent nine years at Rangers, making over 250 appearances and winning numerous trophies, including three Scottish Premier League titles, two Scottish Cups, and three Scottish League Cups. He was also an integral part of Rangers' run to the UEFA Cup Final in 2008, where they narrowly lost to Zenit Saint Petersburg. In 2012, McGregor left Rangers for Turkish club Beşiktaş.

International Career

McGregor made his international debut for Scotland in 2007. He has since earned over 40 caps for his country and has represented Scotland at major tournaments such as the UEFA European Championship and the FIFA World Cup. McGregor was part of the Scotland squad that reached the last 16 of the 2021 UEFA European Championship.

Return to Rangers

McGregor returned to Rangers in 2018 after a brief spell with Hull City. Since his return, he has won another two Scottish Premiership titles and two Scottish League Cups. In 2022, McGregor made his 500th appearance for Rangers, becoming the first goalkeeper to reach that milestone for the club. He has continued to be a reliable and influential member of the Rangers squad, guiding them to more success.

Retirement Announcement

On July 1, 2023, McGregor announced that he would retire from football at the end of the 2022-23 season. He will leave Rangers as one of the most decorated goalkeepers in Scottish football history.
